Milan celebrates the 500th anniversary of the death of Leonardo da Vinci with Milan and Leonardo, a tribute to the genius of Vinci through a rich and varied program of initiatives scheduled from May 2019 to January 2020 and the collaboration of all the main Milanese museums and cultural institutions and national.
The tribute begins May 2, 2019 - the day of Leonardo da Vinci's death in 1519 - with the reopening of the Sala delle Asse of the Sforza Castle.
In the Ducal Chapel of the Sforzesco Castle, from May 16th to August 18th 2019, a selection of original drawings and a multimedia installation will allow us to understand what was the original composition of the Axis Hall.
The programming of Leonardo in Milan is connected above all to the Last Supper preserved in the refectory of Santa Maria delle Grazie. Here the museum center of the Lombardy Region, whose other 12 museums are guided by the Vinci, has announced the preparation of the Leonardo da Vinci exhibition: “first ideas for the Last Supper”, from October 13th to January 13th 2020.
The Museum of Science and Technology named after Leonardo da Vinci will kick off the demonstrations for the 500 years since the artist's death since July 2018 with the Leonardo da Vinci Parade, an exhibition that presents a path between art and science, exposing the most representative models of Leonardo's machines made for the opening of the Museum in 1953.
Codex Atlanticus which, with the Musico, makes the Pinacoteca Ambrosiana the place, from the quantitative and qualitative point of view, more important linked to the presence of the maestro in Milan. On the program, four thematic exhibitions, which will take place from December 2018 to Epiphany 2020.
Palazzo Reale takes part in the celebrations of the 500th anniversary with two projects:
1. from 4 March to 23 June 2019 the exhibition “The wonderful world of nature before and after Leonardo studies” how he has modified the perception of nature in Lombardy.
2. the second, entitled “Leonardo's dinner for Francesco I”: a masterpiece in silk and silver, scheduled from 7 October 2019 to 23 January 2020.
